FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where does NTS Energies operate?+
Based in Quebec City, in the National Capital region, the firm delivers projects throughout Quebec, across Canada and internationally, particularly in Africa. Our team works on site and remotely, allowing us to cover a project in Matane as well as a regional interconnection across the African continent.
Which standards do you use in your studies?+
Our calculations and deliverables comply with IEC standards (60909, 61363, 60947…), IEEE standards (1547, 1584…) as well as the requirements of Canadian and international utilities. In Canada, we gladly apply CSA frameworks (including CSA Z462 for arc flash); in Africa, we align with regional grid codes and funder requirements (AfDB, World Bank).
Do you work in Africa and Canada as well as in Quebec City?+
Yes. Based in the National Capital region, we carry out mandates throughout Canada and in Africa. Our team works on site and remotely, in French and in English, with frameworks adapted to each context: CSA/IEEE in Canada, IEC and donor requirements in Africa. Remote work is done securely through our licensed simulation tools while maintaining rigorous site follow-up.
How do I get an assessment of my installation?+
Contact us through the online form, by phone or by email. An expert analyzes your needs and proposes a solution matched to the performance and reliability of your installation. Within 24–48 business hours, you receive a clear scope of service: boundaries, deliverables, schedule and cost, with no commitment.
Which simulation software do you use?+
DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, EMTP, PSS/E and MATLAB/Simulink — the standards used by the most demanding utilities and industries. We use them for short-circuit calculation, protection coordination, stability, load flow and microgrid sizing, with models validated against the actual data of your installations.
What is a microgrid and why use one?+
A microgrid is a group of interconnected electrical assets that can operate in islanded mode or connected to the main grid. It combines generation (solar, wind, diesel genset), battery storage and intelligent control (EMS) to cut costs, improve reliability and enable energy access in isolated areas or during grid outages.
What timelines and budget should I expect for a study?+
It depends on the size and complexity of the network: a short-circuit study for an industrial substation can be delivered within a few weeks, while a regional interconnection project spans several months. The budget is set after a first free assessment of your needs; we then issue a clear and detailed quotation, with no surprises.
Do you work with industries, municipalities or utilities?+
All three. We serve industrial plants (process reliability, protection, arc flash), municipalities and cities (public infrastructure, lighting, electric mobility) as well as generation, transmission and distribution utilities, in Canada and in Africa.
Are you available 24/7 in case of emergency?+
Yes. For a protection incident, a power loss or a critical failure, our team can be reached at any time by phone. We act quickly to diagnose the issue, secure the installation and prepare the restoration plan.
How does collaboration with your clients work?+
We favour a single, qualified point of contact for each mandate: an engineer who understands your process and constraints. You receive deliverables in French or English, with clear reports, verifiable calculations and defensible recommendations, followed by a review after delivery to ensure everything is understood and put to use.
